ORLANDO, Fla. — After four years, SALT Outreach’s mobile drop-in center that helps thousands of people experiencing homelessness every year, is leaving the Christian Service Center on December 31.

What You Need To Know

  •  SALT Outreach currently operates out of the Christian Service Center

  •  The group plans to move to Mr. Sinai Seventh-day Adventist Church

  •  The new location is larger than the old one, and about two miles away

They’re moving to a new location starting January 6.

Eric Camarillo runs SALT Outreach, and he said the organization’s downtown Orlando mobile drop-in center will move to Mt. Sinai Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He’s looking forward to more outside space at the new location, something that will allow the organization to help more people.

But he acknowledges with every move comes challenges.

“We might innovate a little bit, maybe shuttle people around. Make it a little easier. We know transportation is a barrier,” he said.

Their drop-in center at the Christian Service Center includes charging stations, mail services, as well as shower and laundry trailers.

SALT helps those experiencing homelessness with 80 showers a day and 55 loads of laundry.

The group is continuing expansion to Orlando, Sanford, Apopka, Bithlo, and Pine Hills with their youth and young adult center that’s being renovated right now. Eric said it’s all to help meet a direct need and build a relationship to give people a fighting chance toward ending their homelessness.

The Christian Service Center says they’re working on a renovation project as part of the City of Orlando’s Accelerate program for their homeless services campus. That’s where SALT Outreach is now.

Renovations are scheduled to end by December 2025.

SALT clients already know they’re moving, but next week organizers will hand out flyers to notify them of the new location.

The new location is about 2 miles away from the old location.

SALT says the nonprofit has a bigger need for storage and distribution of supplies for the different areas they serve.

The nonprofit has an end-of-year fundraiser called the Dream Big Campaign.
