DAYTONA BEACH — Spectrum's program to provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations continued Wednesday with a check presentation in Daytona Beach.

Halifax Urban Ministries received a $7,500 donation.

The faith-based organization works to address food and housing insecurity in Volusia and Flagler counties, and according to its website, 94% of each dollar goes to programs and services.

"It's going to provide 300 bags of groceries to families that are food insecure. And that's a huge difference," said Halifax's executive director Buck James. "We're seeing rising need in the community, particularly among seniors. We're seeing a lot of need in seniors, people who are on fixed income, where all of a sudden the cost of everything is going up and they need assistance."

The donation was made as part of the Spectrum Employee Community Grant Program. It allows Spectrum employees to nominate nonprofit organizations where they volunteer for financial assistance and has distributed more than $1.5 million to hundreds of organizations since its inception.

"This has been by far the best award ever, because I get to give this check back to the community, where I live, and where I try to volunteer all the time," said Spectrum account executive Vicki Farrell.
