Johnson is a lead volunteer during the monthly food distribution in Orlando by Soldiers’ Angels.

“I love these guys, man. The camaraderie just comes through, and you develop that friendship. A lot of names, so I might forget your name, but I won’t forget your face though,” Johnson said.

Johnson sees most of the same faces every third Friday of the month. Soldier’s Angels provides 75 pounds of food to veterans and their families who need it most. Giving back to others also gives him something in return.

“That sense of belonging, sense of helping others. Just making a difference in people’s lives,” he said.

Cheryl Sims is the Orlando area director for Soldiers Angels, and said volunteers like Johnson make everything they do possible.

“Tony, he leads in so many areas, in so many things. Today he leads the traffic flow, making sure everybody stays safe. We are so very fortunate. We have corporations that sponsor, as well as want to come out and volunteer with us,” Sims said.

Johnson is just happy to be in the number, an Everyday Hero helping to ensure folks get the food they need to survive. It’s a kind gesture that goes a long way, making life for these veterans and their families just a little easier.

“I love getting up and I love being able to be part of something that is bigger than myself. And I love being able to help others,” Johnson said.
