Debbie Mucarsel-Powell held a rally and a get-out-the-vote event in South Florida Thursday.

She’s trying to fire up Democrats and get them to the polls. But she’s also taking aim at who Scott is choosing to do interviews with in the final days of the campaign. Scott recently did an interview with right wing podcast host Laura Loomer, and Mucarsel-Powell criticized that decision, saying Loomer has a history of promoting conspiracy theories, including one about the families of the victims of the 2018 high school shooting in Parkland, Fla.

“Accusing Parkland families that somehow they were using that tragic gun violence incident to their benefit,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “Rick Scott is definitely scared, and he’s desperate.”

While Republicans are elected to most statewide and federal offices in Florida, Mucarsel-Powell said Democrats shouldn’t be discouraged and should get out and vote. She said she believes she has a legitimate chance to win back a U.S. Senate seat in Florida.

“And I think that a huge portion of the independent voters is coming our way,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “We are still in a very diverse state. Of course Rick Scott wants you to believe that the race is already set so that you don’t come out and vote. It’s a way to suppress energy and to suppress votes. But believe me when I say I am feeling optimistic about Tuesday.”
