OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Long awaited relief is coming to major thoroughfare connecting Kissimmee to St. Cloud.

What You Need To Know

  • Construction is underway to widen Neptune Road from U.S. 192 to Partin Settlement Road

  • Work is expected to ease congestion on Neptune Road

  • The project is expected to wrap up in 2027

Construction began earlier this year to widen Neptune Road from two to four lanes from Partin Settlement Road to U.S. 192

As an alternate route to U.S. 192, drivers say Neptune Road often gets clogged with traffic.

“It used to take me, no joke, from home to downtown Kissimmee, probably 20 minutes," said Chris Passmore, who owns airboat tours company Marsh Landing Adventures. "Now, with the construction and congestion of all the backed up traffic, it takes me almost an hour, maybe a little bit more."

Osceola County is spending $107 million to widen Neptune Road, along with adding a shared-use path and, in one stretch, a bike lane.

Passmore said work should have started 20 years ago, as he expects tens of thousands of new homes to add even more traffic to Neptune Road in the coming years.

“It’s going to add a lot more traffic to this area,” he said.

The road-widening project isn’t expected to be completed until 2027.
