“My experience in school wasn’t fun," Wessells said. "I loved learning. I hated school so I come here and I try to make things hands on, make things fun."
Through his lessons, he’s building relationships with his students.
“I always tell these guys each and every day how much I love them and appreciate them," he said. "These are my school kids. I’m a father of four. At one point all four of my kids did go here."
Wessells said he decided he wanted to become a teacher when he was working at a daycare.
He wanted to make a difference in kids’ lives. A parent nominated him to be featured as an A+ Teacher for doing just that.
“And I know sometimes these students aren't going to remember everything I taught them," he said. "But hopefully they’ll remember how I made them feel — loved and appreciated and helped them through a tough time."
