SEMINOLE COUNTY Fla. — Parents in Seminole County are raising concerns and calling for more action following a series of threats against schools, including the discovery of a gun at Lake Brantley High School.

Leslie Kirschenbaum, a mother of four, including a son at Lake Brantley, is among those demanding the district implement stronger safety measures. A petition started by another parent, which has gained over 2,600 signatures, calls for metal detectors to be installed at the school.

“It’s chaos when incidents like this happen,” Kirschenbaum said, describing the fear and uncertainty experienced by students and parents alike. “We need to address the fact that our kids are scared to go to school.”

Kirschenbaum has also expressed frustration over what she sees as a lack of transparency from the school district. She sent an email requesting a town hall meeting to discuss safety plans and funding for protective measures but has yet to receive a reply.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office was also contacted, but did not make anyone available to comment on how future threats will be handled.
