  •  Investigators say they believe the girl's death was the result of ongoing abuse

Tyshael Martin was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into the child’s June 17 death.

Investigators at Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that through the investigation, they were able to find home video footage off the family’s security system that showed Sessions being attacked by the family’s dog, with Martin allegedly holding the leash and commanding the dog to continue.

They also said video allegedly shows Martin hitting Sessions, shaking her, and dragging her motionless body across the floor.

Earlier this week, findings from the medical examiner determined Session’s death was caused by blunt injuries to her head and body, as well as a burn on her foot. Authorities said they believe her death was the result of an ongoing pattern of abuse.

“So many of these cases occur within the privacy of one’s four walls inside their home, but that is not to say that neighbors, your viewers may see something inter neighborhood, in their circles, and we always say the cliche is you see something say something,” said Lake County Sheriff’s Office Lt. John Herrell. “Obviously, if they see something that doesn’t sit right, they feel like someone is at risk of abuse. Obviously we want to hear from them.”

Herrell said that Martin lived in the home for the last year with her four children as well as Sessions, Session’s father, and the girl’s sibling.

He said they have responded to the home twice in the last year — once in December when the children had not been to school consistently, and then again back in March.

According to Herrell, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office has opened an administrative investigation into one of their employees to determine how that last call was handled.

Martin is currently being held without bond on charges of murder, child abuse and child neglect.
