Thousands of people will be packing downtown Lake Mary to congratulate the team in person.

“It’s beyond joyful, it’s inspiring, and the one thing we wanted to do right now is celebrate the team, the coaches, and the family members,” said Lake Mary Mayor David Mealor.

Lake Mary city leaders say they’ve been planning some sort of event for several weeks to commemorate the team just making it to the Little League World Series. But when the team won it all, that just made the celebration even bigger.

Mike Periord, a manager at 4th Street Bar & Grill, says he’s called in most of his staff to be on hand for what will be a busy day.

The business has been busy with watch parties for the team’s games leading up to their world series championship win, and it’s right along Saturday’s parade route on 4th Street.

“They’re going to be celebrities, their faces are known all over, and to represent the United States — the entire country – was pretty impressive to take the win, pretty special,” said Periord.

People from across the community who cheered the team on will now get the chance to congratulate them in person.

“It’s going to be insane, I mean, who doesn’t want to come to something like this,” said Periord. “Our little town of Lake Mary has just exploded, especially with all the watch parties they’ve had here. So it’s pretty neat – pretty neat and exciting for these kids.”

The city says sponsors are helping to offset the city’s costs for the event and they say other law enforcement agencies will be assisting Lake Mary Police to keep everything safe.

The parade is at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, on 4th Street in downtown Lake Mary, and a block party will follow afterward.

City leaders suggest people attending to get a ride to the area if possible, or park in one of the city’s public parking lots.

They also suggest parking at nearby Seminole State College or at the Lake Mary SunRail station parking lot.
