OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — One road, two counties, and two very different nighttime drive experiences.
Osceola County resident Nitish Reddy Kotha is hoping the county will add street lights to Narcoossee Road between Boggy Creek Road and U.S. 192.
“After making regular trips we noticed how dark this area (is) in the night, compared to the same (road) in the Orange County part of the town,” said Kotha.
Kotha said he didn’t realize the area was so dark until he and his family moved into their new home a year ago.
He said it’s pitch dark when driving in that area at night, which makes it dangerous to travel because people and wildlife often dart across the road.
While he wants street lights installed in the area so drivers can see their surroundings better, a spokesperson for the county said they recently installed lights at school bus stops on Narcoosee Road, and don’t plan to add any more.
However, the county has plans to install traffic signals, enhanced signing and markings, and median curbs on Narcoosee from Jack Brack Road to U.S. 192, to cut down on crashes.
“I’m just hoping they plan a little more out in the future,” said Kotha. “Because people are already coming in to the area. And the planning, I feel, could have been better.”
