WISCONSIN — Soy sauce company Kikkoman broke ground on its second facility in Wisconsin Wednesday, as crews got to work on building a new $560 million facility between Madison and Milwaukee.

"It's a significant investment. When we start talking about the brand of Kikkoman — just that known brand identity," said Ben Wehmeier, the Jefferson County administrator. "We've seen the investment into what that means, not just for Kikkoman but what it could bring to the rest of the county in general. We've got a lot of people reaching out to say, 'What else can be done in Jefferson County?'"

Wehmeier said the community of Jefferson, and Jefferson County at large, is already seeing the impact Kikkoman's new facility will have for years to come. The company set to hire more than 80 employees in Jefferson.

"We're starting to see that ripple effect of that cluster [of expanding businesses] going forward," Wehmeier said. "I think it's also the awareness with [a lot of publications] talking about our location and what can that do with our location, workforce, housing, just that skilled labor force."
