SANFORD, Fla. — A+ Teacher Adrian Sutton really knows his stuff. The Sanford Middle School teacher’s passion for video production and teaching others came during his high school years.
It is lights, camera, action in Sutton’s class at Sanford Middle School in Sanford.
"They're really coming in here and they're coming in here getting this real-world experience of what it's like to be in the broadcast arena, or what it's like to be on a film set," he says.
Sutton has always enjoyed teaching.
"I've always been the type of person who loved explaining things, if that makes any sense," he says. "Inherently, I just love the idea of teaching and imparting knowledge."
He has been teaching for a little more than a decade.
Sutton grew up in the Deltona area surrounded by teachers.
"I had watched my mom be a teacher. I'd watched my uncle be a teacher. It was very inspiring," he says.
Sutton is also a professional actor. From commercials to a role on the Emmy-nominated HBO show “The Staircase,” he has a wealth of experience that he is happy to share.
Sutton says, "I want them to take away a real-life experience of actually being on the set, whether it's a news set or whether it's a film set, or whatever, or television set," Sutton says. "If they do decide to take this on out in the real world, then they have such a leg up compared to everybody else because I’ve imparted based on my experience to them."
Those are skills the students are not only learning, but are putting to use pursuing opportunities.
Sutton adds, "And they e-mail you and they say, ‘I really thank you for the knowledge that you gave me,’ or I’ve had other students that I taught like my second year that get ahold of me and they're like, ‘Mr. Sutton, I want to be an actor. What do I do?’ and I am just like. I'm like ‘OK!’ "
