DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Memorial Day weekend is here and as the three-day weekend brings a ton of events to Central Florida, people will be out and about.

Already keeping busy is the Daytona Tortugas minor league baseball team.

Fans say they are excited about the events lined up over the next few days.

One fan said he has been to 385 consecutive Tortugas games.

“This becomes like a family event here, we become family here,” fan Robert Rice said.

With events taking place Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Tortugas fans have a lot to look forward to.

“There’s going to be tens of thousands of people here going through the gates of Jackie Robinson Ballpark throughout the weekend," said Tortugas general manager Jim Jaworski. "There’s no better place to be."

Throughout all the fun, though, law enforcement will be out and about.

“On Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, it’s all hands on deck,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

Chitwood said people traveling to Volusia County can expect extra patrols out on the water and roads.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s office is partnering with other surrounding agencies, and Chitwood said they’ll be out in the county for zero tolerance.

“If you’re going to come here and act a fool, we have a place for you at the happiest place on earth, which is the Volusia County branch jail," Chitwood said. "But if you’re coming here to have a good time, give yourself plenty of time."

With graduation events also taking place this weekend, Chitwood said that is going to cause even more foot traffic and vehicles on the roadways. So he's asking visitors to be patient, plan ahead and give yourself a little extra time.

“We have a perfect weekend — upper 90s, very little rain, it has beach activity written all over it,” he said.

For people heading to graduation ceremonies, Chitwood suggests using Main Street Bridge to access the beach. All other events and visitors should use International Speedway Bridge, Oakridge Bridge or the Orange Avenue Bridge.
