In Kelley’s yearbook class, she helps students capture and document the memorable moments of their school experience.
She remembers her own time in the same school fondly and says, "I was an involved student. I was quiet but I was very involved. I participated actually here at Apopka in yearbook and student government, Beta, National Honor Society. I played softball."
Kelley says it is important that everyone in her class has a voice in the process.
"Where everyone is respectful, everybody's ideas are heard and we can collaborate together to create something fantastic for everyone," she said.
She did not initially set out to teach.
“In my previous career, I worked at an insurance restoration general contractor as their office manager/bookkeeper. I started working at one of these type companies when I was in college at UCF as a receptionist and then moved to San Diego after graduation for four and a half years and began working for another contractor in the same industry. I then had a baby and moved back home to Apopka. That is when I began substituting and was hired that same year,” she recalled.
Kelley talks about the influence her daughter has played in her decision.
“I wanted something where I could spend a little more time with her that gave me a flexible schedule,” Kelley said, adding that she really enjoys teaching. “I loved it and stuck with it."
