Madeline’s father, stepmother and grandmother were present at the vigil, visiting the site for the first time.

“My heart aches as I share with you the pain of losing a child to such a heinous act,” Tatiana Wallance, Madeline’s stepmother, said during the vigil. “Madeline approached life with unwavering optimism and resilience. Her laughter echoed through our home, brightening even the darkest of days. I will miss brushing and braiding your beautiful long blonde hair.”

Madeline’s biological father Tyler laid down flowers and read others’ notes, before becoming overwhelmed and excusing himself.

His wife Tatiana’s message also focused on why it is important for victims of sexual abuse to speak out or seek help.

“In the wake of the devastation, I implore each and every one of you to initiate this uncomfortable yet crucial dialogue with your children,” she said.

The vigil was put on by a group of people who continue to want to seek justice for Madeline. They are called "Boots on the Ground for Maddie."

“We have a message to convey to our agencies, in this great state of Florida, so we can roll up our sleeves and service our children in a proactive manner,” said Jenny Esquivel, who is with the group.

No charges have been filed yet for anyone involving the death of Madeline Soto.
