Rogelio Cordero wrote into Traffic Inbox because he says there are very few signs for the south cell phone lot when driving in from State Road 417.

“A lot of confusion for people not familiar with the airport,” he says.

An airport cell phone lot is designated for use by people waiting to be alerted by cell phone to pick up arriving visitors.

Cordero says he makes frequent trips to Orlando International Airport and its south cell phone lot, where he waits to pick up family and friends visiting.

He usually drives in from the north, from State Road 528.

But on a first trip to the new Terminal C, he came in from the south, off SR-417, where he got confused.

“That day, before knew it, I was back in traffic,” he says, “and thought to myself, ‘What happened?’ ”

Cordero missed the turn for the south cell phone lot.

“Signage for the cell phone area is just two small signs, and if you miss those two signs, you are already in traffic going to the main airport and you somehow have to find your way out,” Cordero says.

Cordero says on a crowded sign, there’s a small cell phone icon next to the letter “P” to alert drivers to the cell phone lot. He says if he had trouble finding it, so too would out-of-towners, or those not familiar with the airport.

An airport spokesperson says the sign posted follows current guidelines.

But she says officials are currently working on signage to assist passengers to the train station, as well as the cell phone lots.

“We consistently look for ways to improve wayfinding to passengers and the public at-large,” says Angela Starke, senior vice president of public affairs and community relations with the airport.

Cordero says he hopes the improvements make it easier for those looking for the cell phone lot.

“I think that would be helpful for passengers, drivers coming to the airport,” Cordero says.
