  • Marion County officials say they’ve studied the intersection but a traffic signal isn’t needed right now

  • But county anticipates a light will be needed in the future with new development

Ravi Ramlall says he’s had close calls driving on Southwest 60th Avenue at the intersection with Southwest 80th Street.

“That’s a very narrow spot and I’ve seen people honking, I’ve seen near misses,” said Ramlall.

While those on 80th have to stop, those on busy 60th don’t. It can lead to drivers stuck in the median, waiting to turn.

“Just a very dangerous area because of all the ways people can turn,” he said.

Ramlall would like a traffic signal installed, so Spectrum News asked Marion County.

A spokesperson says the intersection was studied in 2020 and they continue to monitor the intersection, but recent crash history shows that a light isn’t needed.

But with new developments in the area, the county does anticipate a traffic signal will be needed in the future.

“Sometimes people running out of the stop signs from the side roads here cause a lot of near misses,” Ramlall said.

In the meantime, Ramlall would suggest a no U-turn and a right turn only sign should be installed.
