DELAND, Fla. — Experience the magic of Christmas and a Florida holiday tradition at the Stetson Mansion in DeLand.
For the 12th year, J.T. Thompson has transformed his entire home into a Christmas spectacular.
Drawing inspiration from visitors, he has re-themed 10 rooms in the home, creating a Christmas Mansion.
“I heard a little girl say to her mom, ‘Mommy, wouldn’t this be a great place for an enchanted tea party?’” Thompson said. “And I was like, ‘Ta-da!’ I’m just hoping that this year, this little girl comes back and she realizes that this is all because of her.”
Thompson said he never decorated a Christmas tree before moving to the Stetson Mansion. Now, he has 30 decorated trees inside, and 50 vignettes.
“I do remember as a kid getting a snow globe once for Christmas, and I thought it was the most magical thing in the world," he said. "So when I designed this room, I wanted each vignette to look like its own snow globe."
Thompson said the transformation takes four months to pull off. While some of the décor is donated, Thompson purchases the rest from around the world. He stores 350 boxes packed with Christmas magic.
The Christmas Mansion offers tours through Jan. 20. You can choose between a guided or self-guided tour.
