CLEVELAND — The fifth annual pickle festival was in downtown Cleveland on Saturday afternoon. It wasn't only fundraising for the Greater Cleveland Volunteers, but it brought hundreds of people together to enjoy delicious pickles.
Ryan Krause was a pickle last year for Halloween, but little did he know he’d be using the costume again.
"We’re like, we’re never going to wear these again. Pickle fest comes around, and we’re like, why not put them on? So, embrace the day of the pickle I guess," he said.
The day of the pickle brought hundreds of people to downtown Cleveland all to enjoy the many vendors serving all kinds of pickles.
Bobby Claeys was supposed to have some help at his pickle stand, but things didn’t go as planned and now he’s having to keep a smile on a line full of pickle lovers.
"It's really unbelievable. I think I was underestimating what was going to happen today, but very excited about the outcome for sure," he said. "Was supposed to have some help but it kind of fell through. Here I am by myself, making the most of it, but can't say no to all these people so no complaints here."
Everyone in the Urban Pickle line had nothing but good things to say about the five-year tradition.
While the pickle fest is a must go for pickle lovers, Joy Banish, the executive director for the Greater Cleveland Volunteers, said this event is also raising money to keep the city of Cleveland full of quality volunteers.
"Greater Cleveland volunteers provides volunteers throughout the community and more help is needed there is so many needs to help people that need help and we need more volunteers to give their time to serve so we are trying to raise money today so we can recruit and mobilize more volunteers," she said.
No doubt a couple of pickles kept everyone in good spirits on Saturday afternoon.
