WISCONSIN — “Bachelor” fans, get ready to root for Renee.
Renee Halverson-Wright is one of 22 women competing on the inaugural season of “The Golden Bachelor,” a spinoff in ABC’s “The Bachelor” franchise, focused on seniors finding love. Halverson-Wright, 67, was born and raised in Dodgeville, Wis., according to one of her author bios.
The Wisconsin native currently lives in Chicago, but she said she “takes great pride in her roots as a small town girl.”
She has written two books, “Running Country Roads and Life Lessons Learned” — a biography about her dad — and “Missing from the Sidelines: The Untold Stories of the Chicago Honey Bears NFL Cheerleaders” — which dives into the dismantling of the NFL Chicago Bears cheerleaders: The Chicago Honey Bears. Halverson-Wright is a former Chicago Honey Bear cheerleader herself, and was even the captain.
She’s also a mother and grandmother who’s “ready to meet the love of her life,” according to her Bachelor bio.
Halverson-Wright said she particularly loves taking her grandchildren to the zoo. When she’s not with her children and grandkids, she said she loves planting flowers, spending time with her cat, attending group fitness classes and going for walks around Lake Mendota. Lucky for her, the Golden Bachelor, Gerry Turner, is a 71-year-old who lives on a lake in Indiana. Oh, and according to his Bachelor bio, he’s a Chicago sports fan.
Halverson-Wright and Turner are both self-proclaimed romantics. Halverson-Wright said the most romantic thing she has ever done is make a blanket for someone so they “could always feel my warmth and love around him,” and she said she’s ready to fall in love again.
“The Golden Bachelor” premieres on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. on ABC. It will also be available to stream on Hulu.
