SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County has activated an extreme weather plan as the heat index exceeds 108 degrees this week. Relief from the heat is available at county libraries, as well as inside park facilities.

What You Need To Know

  • Rescue Outreach Mission is also opening doors to anyone needing to get out of the heat

  • Seminole County is advising everyone exercising outdoors take extreme caution to stay hydrated

  • The county is also putting a shelter on standby in the event a senior living facility loses A.C.

With high temperatures expected this week, Seminole County is urging people to take caution if they plan to head outdoors. Hydration will be key, and it’s important to be mindful of pets and kids who cannot communicate that they’re overheating.

Seminole County is encouraging those who don’t have access to air conditioning to find a public library during the day. Rescue Outreach Mission is also opening its doors to people trying to get out of the heat.

“We’ve become one of their many cooling stations out here in the county. We’ll set up some bottles of water, some coolers, tents, to allow a place for folks to come out of the heat,” said Chris Ham, executive director of Rescue Outreach Mission.

Seminole County is also preparing for the unlikely event that a senior living facility loses its air conditioning. There is a shelter on standby.

The county is also putting signs out to remind people of the dangers of the hot pavement to dog paws.

Like Seminole County, Volusia County has designated public libraries as cooling stations.
