ORLANDO, Fla. — Holiday weekend rental car shortage woes appear to be returning to normalcy in Orlando with more and more people finally able to get behind the wheel.

- GOAA stated that rental companies claim the reason was due to Daytona 500, Disney events
- Megan Prive and her family are in Orlando for 12 days and they were worried they would not get their rental cars
- But they were able to get them; but other people did not
Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) officials stated rental car companies offered an explanation to them about this issue and explained some of those reasons were because of high demand due in part to the Daytona 500 and special events at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.
Megan Prive and her family are in Orlando for 12 days. The family of nine includes her parents, siblings, boyfriend, brother-in-law, niece and nephew.
After hearing about the rental car shortage, Prive was worried that their reservation, which was made a month in advance, was potentially in jeopardy.
“I was getting nervous because we need two minivans for our travels and our trip. So nervous that we wouldn’t be able to find anything,” explained Prive, who is visiting Orlando from Canada.
She said not getting the cars would have called for unplanned expenses.
“It means a lot more to pay in taxis and other shuttles and Uber, which isn’t ideal because we have a family of nine,” added Prive.
This is the family’s first entire family vacation since 2010 and the first part was spent in the airport dealing with rental cars.
“I would like to be on our way to our house to go check-in and go swimming, but we gotta wait in line and hope that we can get a vehicle,” said Prive.
Prive and her family were able to get their two vehicles, but not everyone at the airport was as lucky as the family on Monday night.
A spokesperson for Enterprise Holdings sent Spectrum News the following statement: “Over the weekend, Enterprise Holdings’ brands — Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo — made adjustments to handle the increase in demand to ensure our customers who had existing reservations were able to get the car they reserved. We stopped taking reservations once we were sold out.”
