A gorgeous scene with boating, fishing, and even some wildlife. That’s why Tom Haller comes to the Mount Dora Lighthouse almost daily to take in the views.

Parking on the weekends, though, is leading to major backups and overcrowding in an already tight lot.

“I don’t see any solutions here. There’s no room to have a solution,” said Haller.

Tuesday night Mount Dora City Council is talking about how to manage marina parking. Mayor Crissy Stile said it’s become a free for all.

“It gets excessive. They’re parking where they shouldn’t be parked, at times they block people’s driveways, at times they’re parked in front of no parking signs,” said Mayor Stile.

Mount Dora Mayor Crissy Stile said there’s talk the city may change the ordinance, making it stricter for trailers to park in the area.

They’re also looking at raising parking fines.

“Currently, the fine is $75. I think the residents feel like that’s not enough to deter the parking violations that are occurring,” said Mayor Stile.

But Haller said he thinks the increase fine will only deter folks from visiting Mount Dora. Instead, he hopes the city takes on the bigger issue of not enough parking in the area.

Increasing parking in the downtown area is an issue the Mount Dora knows all too well. But the city says the land to implement a parking project is slim picking.
