MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Authorities are offering a reward for information on the killings of a husband and wife at the Waterman Village senior living community.
Interim Police Chief Mike Gibson said at a town hall meeting Monday that a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the homicide investigation of an 83-year-old man and 80-year-old woman.
Gibson said the couple were found dead at their independent-living duplex Saturday afternoon. He would not elaborate on how and when the couple died but urged anyone who saw anything suspicious Friday or Saturday to come forward.
“You’d be shocked at how often it’s the smallest detail and that is the thing that pushes this over the edge,” he said.
Gibson said he is not releasing the victims’ names at this time, despite notifying their son and daughter: “I made the decision not to release the names until after I speak with them and let them know here’s the process, here’s what’s going to happen.”
Gibson said he planned to meet with their son Monday afternoon.
Mount Dora resident and former mayor Melissa DeMarco says she lives about a mile away from Waterman Village and has friends who live there. “They’re very concerned, very concerned,” she told News 13 after the meeting. “There are some people that are vulnerable in that location.”
