GalaxyCon Columbus is underway. And Saturday was only Day 2 of the three-day convention.
Celebrities, voice actors, comic book creators and more are in town for the special occasion and thousands of fans continue to pour in for all the fun.
Somewhere in the mix is Jazmine Jackson, who's not just a fan of anime — she embodies it.
"I was like 'I wanna do that',” said Jackson. “I want to look cool, going around, and act like my favorite character."
GalaxyCon is the one place Jackson can channel a character she's always looked up to: Yato, a god from the "Noragami" manga series whose dream is to become a god of fortune.
Jackson got into cosplay at 12 and has seen herself in Yato.
"I relate to him a lot,” said Jackson.
It took some time getting the costume right, down to the last detail.
"I got these blue cat eye contacts,” said Jackson. “I made this in like an hour or two, and the wig took a minute. That's about all that was made."
Her friend Megan Carlisle also went all out, dressing as Sophie Hatter from the movie "Howl's Moving Castle."
"It's a character I relate to a lot,” said Carlisle. “She's very headstrong and stubborn, and that's how I am a lot."
Her costume has turned many heads.
"It's cool to see all the people who recognize you,” said Carlisle. "They’re like 'Oh my gosh. You look so cute. Can I get a picture with you?' It makes you feel really good."
But cosplay is only half the fun of it. The other is coming across like-minded fans invested in the same interests.
"People who are awkward like me, weird like me, can have a place and meet people and just have one common thing,” said Jackson. “I feel like today we don't have something to be united with, and nerd culture, love for cosplay, love for anime unites people."
The convention runs through Sunday at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
