"In my classroom, you'll notice kids laying on the ground. Kids are sitting down,” Allen said. “It allows them to go beyond the traditional walls and learn however they desire to learn.”

Allen said teaching is her calling.

"Ever since I was a little girl, I have done so many different things in the educational arena — from 'Teachers of Tomorrow,' from tutoring — since I was maybe, since the third grade,” she said.

Her teaching strategy has evolved over the years.

"I call it more student-led, so you'll see me do a lot of the teaching, and then you'll see the kids doing a lot more of the talking than just the teacher,” Allen said. “It stays with them a lot longer, and I just like to have it where it's fun and animated and bubbly."

She said she knows exactly what she wants her students to take away from their time together.

"Learning is one of the most powerful gifts that you can ever be blessed with,” Allen said. “Develop a passion for learning now and in the future, you will always have that hunger and that desire to learn, and no one can take that from you."
