ORLANDO, Fla. — Hurricane Ian continues to impact many Central Florida families including increasing the number of residents in need of hunger relief.
Tom Roderick, 65, said it motivates him to help out.

- “When they take my drivers license away from me, that’s when I’ll stop delivering for Meals on Wheels,” Roderick said
Roderick volunteers for the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels.
“There comes a time when you have to do something to give back to society,” he said. ‘You got to give meaning to the end of your life. You can’t just sit back and watch other people suffer.”
He began to volunteer four years ago after he retired and sold his fencing business. He said initially his first thought was to spend his newly free time on the golf course or fishing.
He said it was a close friend of his who gave him an even better idea on what to do, volunteer.
“(I was) fortunate that I was successful enough that I was able to retire and it was my turn to give back so, that’s what I’m doing,” he said.
He said he gets great joy from volunteering and helping feed his community. He said doesn’t see himself stopping anytime soon.
“When they take my drivers license away from me, that’s when I’ll stop delivering for Meals on Wheels,” he said. "Friday is one of my favorite days of the week and it’s because of this.”
