OCALA, Fla. - A tree crashed down on an Ocala apartment complex, forcing 12 families out of their homes. It’s the same complex that a tornado severely damaged back in March.

Spectrum News learned many of those families are back home, but one still can’t return.

  • Most of the families are back in their homes, but one family needs to change units

  • This is the same apartment complex that was particially destroyed by a tornado in March

Lou Noble is a 30-year-long Ocala resident. Once she got older she moved to Saddleworth Green Apartments. She’s close with her neighbors.

“Those of us who are retired meet, we go for walks, and go to the pool,” said Noble.

The Saddleworth Green community has been through a lot this year. Back in March, a tornado tore through multiple buildings. Something they’re still recovering with to this day.

“The tornado came right by me, knocked out two trees right next to me and didn’t touch me. I was in my apartment the whole time thinking that’s a whole lot wind out there, that’s really noisy," said Noble.

As the complex continues to refurbish the community, tree removal isn’t uncommon. But this time something was different. Over the weekend, a tree removal company attempted to cut down a tree that was slanted towards the building. But Noble said she had an unsettling feeling about the whole thing.

“I’m no tree expert or anything. Usually when you take a tree down you take the top off, the heavy part,” said Noble

Noble said that didn’t happen. To be honest, she doesn’t know what they were thinking.

“Finally the thing just gave way and went over to that apartment. And it went right straight through,” said Noble.

Thankfully, no one was inside the apartment when it happened. But Ocala Fire said the accident displaced 12 families over the weekend. They’ve all returned, except for one last family -- they’re staying with Noble.

“They don’t have any furniture or clothing or anything. Everything is in that apartment,” said Noble, “It’s a lot of stress, they’re wondering how everything is gonna fall together".

The mother-daughter duo told me off camera it’s been a traumatic experience. But they are thankful for wonderful neighbors like Noble. Noble said the complex is moving the family to another apartment in the coming days. Spectrum News was told the family is working with their insurance to replace what was damaged.
