Two people, including the suspected gunman, died Saturday afternoon following a shooting at a South Orange Blossom Trail hotel, officials said.
Three people were injured in the Saturday afternoon incident, Orange County Sheriff's Office investigators said.
Deputies responded to the scene at about 12:36 p.m. and encountered "one man with a gunshot wound and another man holding a gun," a Sheriff's Office release said.
The individual was told to drop his weapon and when he did not comply, one of the responding deputies shot him, the release said.
A third individual had been shot before deputies arrived, investigators said.
All three, including the individual shot by the deputy, were take to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators reported at about 4:15 p.m. that the man initially found shot by deputies and the suspected gunman had both died. The third person remains at the hospital and their condition was not immediately released.
The deputy is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation, Orange County Sheriff's Office Undersheriff Mark Canty said.
No other information about the shootings was immediately released, but Canty praised the community members who reported the initial shootings and the deputies who responded to the scene.
"Anytime someone pulls a gun and indiscriminately starts shooting at people, the entire community's at threat," he said. "The good things about this case is that a lot of people called us and the deputies were able to put themselves between innocent civilians and a bad guy."
This is a developing story and more information will be posted as it becomes available.
