ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police officers would like to speak with a pair of people seen leaving the area of the Lake Eola fireworks show shortly before a panic broke out, injuring numerous people.
Police Chief Orlando Rolon said they are not in trouble, but police would like to speak with them.
They're asking anyone with video of the incident to send it to the department via this link.
They also requested video any spectators have in the area of Central Avenue and Rosalind at the time the incident happened.
The disturbance happened at Monday night's "Fireworks at the Fountain" event at Lake Eola. The Orlando Police Department posted on Twitter: "To our community members now in Downtown Orlando, please know that there is NO evidence of a shooting in the area. Our officers are now working to secure the area. There is NO public safety hazard at this time."
In a second tweet, police said: "At this time, it appears that a noise during the fireworks show confused some spectators, causing the reaction. No serious injuries have been reported. Only minor injuries suffered by some spectators who fell during the commotion."
Videos that circulated on social media showed people leaving the fireworks show before it had completed.
A band performing music at the event stopped playing and left the stage, according to reports received by Spectrum News 13.
A witness told Spectrum News 13 that the fireworks show started about 30 minutes late, which caused some concern among eventgoers. At some point, according to the witness, people began running away during the show.
There were also random shoes lying around on the streets and sidewalks, and at one point, the witness walked by a stretch of road just north of the park where there were three or four overturned baby strollers.
The fireworks show continued at that point, the witness told us.
Orlando police said 12 people suffered minor injuries during the incident as they were running away.
They said they plan to continue to investigate the event that set off the panicky situation and asked anyone who has information to contact them.
Any family members who were separated during the incident have been reunited, police said.
