WINTER PARK, Fla. — Family is everything to Orange County A+ Teacher Robin Golden. She said she has three good reasons for going into teaching, her children. They're all adults now, and they're all teachers.

What You Need To Know

  • Teaching runs in Robin Golden's family

  • She has taught at Aloma Elementary School in Winter Park for 25 years

  • It was a natural transition from teaching my own children," Golden says

"They all read when they were 4 or 5 years old — not from me teaching them — just from immersing them in reading and writing," Golden said. "Science. We were always sending away for something and building something, creating, so it was a natural progression."

The Aloma Elementary School teacher said she considers her students her family, too, which makes all the difference when it comes to learning.

"These kids are my community — an extension of my family," Golden said.

A parent reached out to Spectrum News 13 to nominate Golden, saying, "She is an amazing teacher."

"Kindergarten is just my thing," Golden said. "I just love teaching them how to read, and seeing the growth in the kindergarten year is just gigantic. We call ourselves the curious kindergartners. We do a lot of hands-on things.

"Five-year-olds are amazing. They can do a lot more than we think they can. They have a lot of ideas."

Golden's own children went into different specialties in education.

"My oldest daughter is the senior administrator over science for the district, and my oldest son teaches golf," she said. "My youngest son is at Rollins overseeing the media program there, and so we're all educators."

Golden has been in the classroom for 25 years and said parents seek her out to enroll their children in her class.

"And I've had siblings, you know, three in a family, and a new baby being born and they say, 'OK put them on the list for your class.' "

For this A+ Teacher, there is no place she'd rather be than the classroom.

"I do love it," Golden said. "It keeps me going. It's my passion."
