What You Need To Know

  • A fire began at Goff's Ice Cream shop just after 6 o'clock Friday morning

  • Investigators believe that the fire was intentionally created

  • Todd Peacock, the owner, states that he plans to rebuild

Investigators say they’re reviewing surveillance video, and asking the public for any information about who started the fire. Goff’s owner, Todd Peacock, says the fire destroyed much of what’s inside the shop, but he plans to rebuild and reopen the shop that’s been around since 1948.

“I’ve got to figure out what I need to do,” Peacock told Spectrum News.

“It’s cinderblock inside, and I can pressure wash and do whatever you have to do to get the black stuff off the walls, but other than that, we’ll rebuild and come back stronger," he continued.

One customer who used to work at a grocery store next to the shop says he’s been coming there to get ice cream since the 1970s.

“I think it’s great that he’s determined to get this back open and get it back going,” said Karl McClary. “He has a love for this community and the community has a love for this place.”

The Orlando Fire Department says they are investigating the fire as arson, and they are asking the public if they have any information about the fire to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
