The Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Albany is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Greek Festival this weekend.
The church’s biggest fundraiser of the year — a three-day event filled with music, dancing and, of course, food — is back in pre-pandemic form.
There is no drive-thru this year. Instead, patrons can dine in the outdoor tent or at the indoor buffet.
There will be savory favorites like roasted lamb shanks and stuffed peppers and Greek pastries like baklava and almond cookies.
"Everybody's got that excitement for the festival, to show and share our culture with everyone," said Maria Neal. "The kids are excited to finally be dancing. We have kids that are coming back that should have graduated, and they're going to get their opportunity to dance. So, it’s great.”
The $5 entrance fee is good for all weekend, and goes to help fund the church’s programs.
Parking is free.
