DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A man accused of driving drunk and killing a New Smyrna Beach teen is back in custody after a judge revoked his bond.
The judge found “substantial probability” Michael Miles, 32, caused the deadly crash from over the weekend.
Assistant State Attorney Ashley Terwilleger presented evidence in court arguing Miles has a history with the charges of which he is accused: driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. Terwilleger said medical records show Miles tested positive for alcohol and cannabis after the crash.
Siddharth Sukhdeo, 17, died in the crash, which also sent his mother, Shirmattie, to the hospital in critical condition. The two were sitting in the backseat of a vehicle at a stoplight when their car was rear-ended. Siddharth’s father, Satesh, says Shirmattie has eight broken ribs and is recovering from surgeries.
Satesh called his son a “tremendous person” who made such an impact on the community.
