SARASOTA, Fla. — Making sure each point of her instruments are finely sharpened, Isabella Weissflog settles in to work on her next design.

What You Need To Know

  • The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is inspiring young artists

  • It can be a nice blend of history and art

“So much creativity goes into drawing, but people don't realize the precision and mathematics that goes into it as well," Weissflog said.

Weissflog is a first-year student at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota.

“Yes, it's my fourth month here and it's going pretty good so far,” she said.

She's settling in, but her favorite spot to design is hardly her school, it's actually right at the city’s Sarasota Classic Car Museum where she's putting together her latest assignment.

“Making it for a character like a mad scientist or a superhero so this is the base of my next project,” Weissflog said.

Using these classic cars to shape her creative character is something long-time museum docent Frank Tucci loves to see.

“We have a whole collection of classic porches these two date back to the '50s and over here we have an exact replica of Abraham Lincoln's hearse," Tucci said as he showed Spectrum News the museum.

Tucci along with the other docents are here to help a new generation find a love for classic cars as they are welcoming students like Weissflog to combine her passion for drawing with the history of the classic cars in the museum.

And a welcome feeling for Weissflog to come where she feels immersed in her design and close to her family this first year away at college.

“My family is brilliant with old cars so it's pretty cool coming here and being surrounded by them,” she said.

The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, head to the museum’s website.
