Loyd is now facing trial for the first-degree murder of Orlando Police Department Lieutenant Debra Clayton.

Loyd is accused of shooting and killing Lieutenant Debra Clayton at a Walmart on Princeton Street in January 2017 after she tried to arrest him for Dixon's murder.

A master sergeant when she was killed, 42-year-old Clayton was posthumously promoted to lieutenant.

She's remembered as a family woman who was deeply involved in trying to better her community.

Loyd escaped the death penalty in Dixon's trial, but that is once again on the table.

His attorneys plan to argue he was insane when he shot Clayton, believing the police wanted to kill him, and they're pushing that Loyd pulled out his gun after Clayton shot at him.

Our partners at the Orlando Sentinel are reporting the judge re-appointed Loyd's attorney after he asked to represent himself, but was having trouble handling his own case from jail.

The jury selection could take a couple of weeks.

We’ll have a team in the courtroom every single day until the end of the trial.
