BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — In an effort to make it easier and more convenient for residents to get tested, Brevard County has expanded its COVID testing sites.

What You Need To Know

  •  Brevard County has opened two new COVID-19 testing sites

  •  One is the county's only walk-up site at the West Melbourne Community Park on Minton Road

  • The second is a drive-up site at Kiwanis Island Park in Merritt Island

One of the latest sites, the county's only walk-up location, is at the West Melbourne Community Park on Minton Road.

It was a walk in the park Monday for Arnold and Janet Lim to get tested.

The couple didn't realize Brevard County just opened up a new outdoor testing site here.

"Saw the sign, didn't even know it was going on," said Arnold Lim.

So, he decided to get tested.

"If it's free, you can hardly mess up on that," he said.

County officials said they were hearing from a lot of residents about the need for more testing options.

Last year under the state of emergency, more funding and resources were available to open sites.

This time, the Florida Department of Health had to arrange testing through private contractors, so the process took longer.

Right now the new sites are seeing about 120 tests a day, but county leaders expect that number to increase as word gets out.

Brevard County has seen more than 6,200 new cases from Aug. 30 through Sept. 12.

Lim was glad he took advantage of the outdoor setting, and said overall his experience, which took 10 minutes, was worth it.

"I wouldn't want to do it everyday, but not so bad," Lim said.

The other new testing location is a drive-up site at Kiwanis Island Park in Merritt Island, where the monoclonal antibody treatment is also available.
