KISSIMMEE, Fla. — With a decrease in demand for the COVID-19 vaccine, officials are trying to reach people who otherwise may not have access.
The Salvation Army at the Osceola Christian Ministry Center offered free haircuts, health checkups and COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday. The vaccinations were part of a partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Osceola County and the Florida Department of Emergency Management.

The Florida Department of Health in Osceola County was vaccinating about 1,000 people a day at its peak, but demand has declined significantly, officials said.
The lower demand for vaccines has allowed health officials to focus on the most vulnerable population in the community, like the homeless.
“The resources are important because, unfortunately, through the cracks that we have, it's the less fortunate among us that always seem to be without,” Pastor Daniel Rivera, a volunteer for the Salvation Army at the Osceola Christian Ministry, said.
The Salvation Army at the Osceola Christian Ministry plans to host another COVID-19 vaccination event later this month.
