LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Churchill Downs held its Post Position Draw for the 147th running of the Kentucky Derby Tuesday morning, determining where each horse will be positioned at the starting gate.

Here's what the starting gate will look like come Saturday:
No. 14 Essential Quality is the morning-line favorite for the Derby with 2-1 odds. Rock Your World, breaking from Gate 15, is the second choice with 5-1 odds, followed by No. 1 Known Agenda with 6-1 odds.
Essential Quality's trainer Brad Cox is happy with his horse's position.
“It got a little nerve wracking with both horses still to go and the rail still being out there. I think it’ll be a good spot," he said. "He’s got good tactical speed that he’ll be able to get into a good position from there.”
The Derby Post Position Draw is a "pill pull" where horses' entry blanks are pulled simultaneously with a numbered pill to determine which stall a horse will break from the starting gate. On Monday, the racetrack held the Post Position Draw for the Kentucky Oaks, with No. 10 Malathaat coming out as the morning-line favorite with 5-2 odds.
Derby 147 is slated for Saturday, May 1, at 6:57 p.m. while the Oaks will run on Friday, April 30, at 5:51 p.m.
