ORLANDO, Fla. — Doctors twice told Ian Danforth's family that he might die.

What You Need To Know

  • Ian Danforth of Orlando was infected with the coronavirus early last year

  • It was the start of the pandemic, and he didn't think it was the virus

  • He spent 2 months in hospital, where doctors didn't think he would make it

His story begins in late March 2020, not long after the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic.

For about five days, Danforth wasn't feeling well, but he still went about his daily routine.

"It started with a dry cough which should've alerted me right then and there, because other people were telling me that's how it starts," he said. "They were kind of picking on me at work a little bit. I'm like, 'I don't have it, I don't have it.' "

But his symptoms got worse quickly. On March 26 of last year, Danforth's partner dropped him off at AdventHealth Orlando, not realizing they wouldn't see him for two months.

Danforth says he wanted to tell his story not to scare anyone but to help people understand what the virus can do.
