Lucha lost her job twice last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The first time she was able to receive unemployment but she said not the second time she lost her job.

She said the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity told her “she made a mistake on her application and it’s unclear when she’ll receive her benefits due to the volume of cases.”

“We ask Governor DeSantis and other lawmakers to fix the unemployment system," Lucha said.”'It’s not only for me but everyone else in the state who are suffering.”

We reached out to Florida DEO about her situation and will update the story once we hear back.

Lucha’s husband was one of the first people in Central Florida to get the coronavirus and was out of work for two months. She said she was forced to pay her bills, rent and eviction settlement with credit cards, which led to a large debt.
