The family of a woman hit by a vehicle and left critically injured is suing the Buffalo Police Department and city.
Chelsea Ellis was walking with her friend on Main Street and Benwood Avenue on April 15.
That's when a police vehicle crashed into another car, hit a utility pole, and struck the woman.
Ellis sustained a major spinal cord injury, putting her in a quadriplegic state.
Her attorney says she will never walk or use her arms again.
Since the incident, she has been at hospitals in Buffalo, Cleveland, and Colorado.
Her family is filing a lawsuit, claiming the officer was driving on the wrong side of the road, speeding, and may have not had his lights and siren on.
Ellis' friend is also suing the police and city. She was hospitalized after the crash, but not as severely injured.
The city does not comment on pending litigation.
