SANFORD, Fla. — In a span of just about 12 hours, the city of Sanford lost one mayor and got another one appointed.
District 1 Commissioner Art Woodruff was appointed by the city commission to finish out former Mayor Jeff Triplett's term, which is about two years.
According to the city charter, any vacancy less than six months prior to the next regular election must be filled by vote of the remaining commission members within 30 days.
Triplett, who had served as mayor since 2010, submitted his resignation, effective immediately, on Monday morning. He then filed to run for Seminole County Property Appraiser.
