SANFORD, Fla. – So many small businesses and restaurants that can’t serve customers like they used to are struggling financially.
- Shantell Williams owns Shantell's Restaurant in Sanford
- Business had been slow because of the coronavirus
- Williams found a way to give back and pay her employees
But one Sanford business’s plea for help turned into a way to give back.
Shantell Williams, owner of Shantell’s Restaurant, recently made a plea to the Sanford community to make enough take-out orders so she could pay her employees’ payroll. The community responded big-time. In fact, some people even ordered from other parts of the country just to help out.
Because those people couldn’t physically pick up their food, Williams delivered that food to workers at a local hospital.
“I thought of the emergency room, and they welcomed us with open arms, grins,” Williams said. “And we even gave them to a couple of security guards. And the feeling I got and the feeling my children got, they want to do it again so I said he let’s do it.”
Williams says her family was so inspired by helping those health care workers out—despite the tough spot her business is in right now – she offered up free to-go meals for all first responders in the Sanford community on Thursday.
“It’s a great feed, a great high to give,” Williams said. “So even if the money doesn’t come, or the bills don’t get paid, the giver’s high – definitely nourishes you and keeps you going.”
