MOUNT DORA, Fla. — The city of Mount Dora has a master plan for creating a bike trail that will wind its way throughout the downtown. The only problem? When will it take shape?
The plan includes tearing out 100-year-old train tracks and replacing them with a multi-purpose trail. The length of the trail has not been decided, but some plans call for it to be the length between Tavares and the Wekiva Trail.
Here are five things to know about the plan. As for what local businesses think about the plan, be sure to watch our segment above.
1. Mount Dora's multi-purpose trail plan has been debated several times over the past 10 years.
2. Railroad tracks that are more than a century old must be removed to make room for the trail.
3. One plan calls for a trail to connect Mount Dora with the city of Tavares and the Wekiva Trail.
4. Mount Dora shop owners are hoping a trail will help their businesses by adding foot traffic to the downtown area.
5. Funding for the project is still uncertain, but city leaders hope to receive matching funds from Lake County and the state.
