WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — City parks in Winter Springs are getting a facelift. The city of Winter Springs is upgrading its parks for its Perk Up Parks initiative.

Here are five things to know about the park upgrades.
1. The city of Winter Springs is investing about $4 million into its city parks. This includes new equipment, facilities, and other upgrades.
2. City Commissioner Geoff Kendrick thinks investing in city parks is a priority. "Before I was a commissioner, I served on the parks and advisory board. We thought of these ideas back then, and it's very exciting to me to put this in to fruition,” Kendrick said. “This year’s budget, we budgeted $3.9 million for our Perk Up Parks initiative. The fitness center that is being built at Trotwood Park will also be open in just a few months."
3. According to Winter Springs Police Department, there have been no reported incidents involving children running on to the road of Northern Way.
4. Trotwood Park's grand opening was last Friday.
5. The swing set is about 25 feet away from Northern Way. Its current location is only temporary, but the city is now going to put in a fence by spring 2020 as an extra security measure.
