CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- There could soon be a new way to get from the Queen City to Atlanta in less than three hours without ever stepping foot inside a car.
- There would be three route options: one north of I-85, another along I-85, and a third is open space south of the highway.
- The Department of Transportation wants to evaluate the environmental, economic, and social effects of the proposal.
- It would cost up to $15 billion. No word on who would pay for it.
Amtrak wants to hear from potential passengers about the possibility of a high speed rail. A meeting was held Thursday night to talk about a proposed 280-mile high speed rail train between the two cities. What would be a four hour drive by car would be cut in half to two and half hours. The Federal Railroad Administration and the Georgia Department of Transportation visited the Queen City for public input.
