HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A man convicted of killing two Tampa police officers is fighting for a second trial.

Dontae Morris was convicted of killing officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis back in 2010.
He was sentenced to death for the crime, but attorneys are back in court looking to appeal his death sentence for a few different reasons, some of which include evidence pertaining to Morris' mental state and whether a witness lied on the stand.
Days after the murders, an old girlfriend of Morris came forward and said that Morris confessed to her. However, Morris' attorney says she was lying.
Morris' old girlfriend, Ashley Price, took the stand Monday. She had been on probation at the time she came forward to give authorities information about Morris.
Price was questioned for about an hour on whether she gave the "false" information with the hopes of lessening her sentence.
Morris' attorneys are expected to bring in more witnesses as they lay out their case to get those death sentences overturned.
The hearing is expected to last a week.
