ORLANDO, Fla. — A man and his uncle served 43 years in jail for a crime that the state now says they did not commit.

They are now out and attempting to rebuild what is left of their lives in Orlando.

Here are five things to know about two men's lives after exoneration:

1. Nate Myers and Clifford Williams were both arrested, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison back in 1976 for the murder of a woman in Jacksonville.

2. The nephew and uncle were at a party in Jacksonville when two women were shot at a nearby apartment – one of them killed.

3. For four decades, Myers said he failed in his efforts to prove his innocence by filing motions from prison – but he remained hopeful.

4. In 2017, as part of an effort to revisit older cases, the state attorney's office in Jacksonville took another look at the case and discovered that someone else had confessed to the crime years ago. A judge tossed Meyers and Williams's convictions, and they were released in late March 2019.

5. As part of "Smile Generation Serve Day" Myers is getting free dental work through SoDo Dentistry in Orlando – part of his efforts to make the most of his freedom.
