KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A new multi-million dollar public safety training center is coming to Kissimmee.

Officials are also using the facility to pay homage to fallen Kissimmee Police Department officers Sgt. Sam Howard and Ofc. Matthew Baxter.

Here are five things you should know about the center:

  1. PURPOSE: The new public safety training center in Kissimmee will serve the city’s police and fire departments.
  2. COST: $8.6 million (main expense associated with this facility is the indoor shooting range).
  3. DESANTIS VETO: Gov. Ron DeSantis, recently vetoed $965,000 designated for the project, but the city said it still plans to move forward with their vision.
  4. FUNDING: Kissimmee's city manager and city staffers are looking into different budgets to find the funding got the center.
  5. SPRING 2020: The facility is under construction now, but it's expected to open in April 2020.
